"In Utero"
What does an "in utero" purchase entail? Purchasing a foal "in utero" simply put... means that the buyer can select the sex, and even in some instances the color, of the foal he wishes to own prior to birth at a greatly reduced price. (Prices are based on the established market value of foals of this quality once they hit the ground, and an "in utero" price is one that is discounted to nearly half price.) With a nominal earnest money deposit and signed contract, the buyers hold the foal off the open market, and have 30 days from the date of birth to either accept or refuse the resulting foal. At that time their monies will either be refunded within 10 days, or applied toward the next available foal. This is how we curb ourselves from wanting to keep them and raising their prices, and buyers get the benefit... while holding us to it in writing.
